Trevor Lingard was born in Accrington, Lancashire in 1952 and now lives in the picturesque village of Sabden, nestled in the historic witch country of Pendle Hill by the Ribble Valley. He is a self taught, professional artist, tutor and demonstrator of his preferred medium of Watercolour, although he also paints superbly in Oils. He is inspired by the works of Edward Seago, Sir William Russel Flint, and renowned working artists John Yardley and Trevor Chamberlain. His work reflects the skill gleaned from decades of practice and a fundamental understanding of the properties of watercolour and the surfaces he uses. His work is characterised by the economy of detail and beautifully simple colour palette which creates paintings with style and bravado. Trevor is anything but flamboyant though, being very modest and unassuming about the astonishing talent he possesses. I first came across him at Patchings Art Festival, several years ago. There was this big, quiet man, painting fantastic watercolours beneath an ingenious home-made mirror contraption, so that onlookers could easily see what he was painting by looking up above him, rather than crowding around him. It was immediately apparent that here was a master technician of the medium, and I have followed him ever since and am thrilled to be able to show Trevor’s paintings in the Gallery.
