Collection: Paul Powell

Paul Powell, who lives in Uppingham, is our newest recruit to the PBFA stable. We have known Paul for several years as a frequent visitor to the gallery, but it is only recently that we found out that he is a painter himself, and a very good one at that!

Paul worked in the education department at Twycross Zoo, designing graphics for signage and conservation bodies, and for the justification for zoos.

Following that, he worked for several years as a botanical artist and illustrator for the Leicester Ecology Trust, designing graphics for nature conservation.

Paul has been a birder all his life, and paints portraiture, wildlife and of course, birds.  This collection of his paintings is an eclectic mix of very affordable, mounted work, and it’s immediately evident that he knows his birds and animals – they are painted confidently with few marks, but the poses and angles are spot-on, without a super-photographic finish, leaving the viewer to complete the work, giving the studies more life, and we’re delighted to give Paul an outlet for his excellent work.
