Collection: Chris Slater ARSMA
Chris Slater was born in 1953 and has lived around the Sheffield/Rotherham area all his life. Chris would draw from his comics as a young lad and did an A level in art at the age of 17. He did a 5 year BA Fine Art at Sheffield college part time, whilst working in the steel works. He took early retirement at the age of 62 to concentrate on his painting, and was inspired by the Pre Raphaelites and from contemporary artists like Ken Howard, Tom Coates, David Curtis and others. Since retiring, Chris has had work accepted by the prestigious New English Art Club, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Discerning Eye and the Royal Society of Marine Artists (RSMA) at the Mall Galleries in London. Chris is proud to be an elected Associate member of the RSMA.
Chris paints in oils, en plein air, directly from life and is one of the hardest working artists I know, and never a day passes that he doesn’t paint. He paints landscapes, still-life and portraits and is largely self-taught through daily practice.
