Born in 1963 at Deepcut in the woods of Surrey, David was drawing from an early age. Fortunate to inherit a family ability to draw and, perhaps as a result of living on the Isle of Skye as a child, he went on to develop a strong fascination with landscape and atmosphere and the challenge of trying to capture fleeting light.  Much of David’s early work was completed in pencil with a strong attention to almost photographic detail but latterly he has been influenced by the lively, spontaneous oil paintings of artists such as Trevor Chamberlain, David Curtis and others, the work of Edward Seago in particular proving an endless source of inspiration.  A strong desire to communicate light effects that most would not notice is now the goal and as a result, virtually all of David’s work is now produced from life ‘en plein air’ with all the usual issues of changeable conditions.  In 2017 David and his wife made a move back to the Isle of Skye, a hugely challenging but inspiring environment for an outdoor painter trying to chase the light. The challenge continues...
David approached us, almost apologetically, in January 2019 to see if we would be interested, and unbeknown to him, David had been on our radar for some time. He is a consummate professional painter, very earnest in chasing his goals, which he is surely destined to achieve with his innate talent, and it was an easy decision to represent him!
