Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Jennifer knew from an early age that she wanted to be an artist. After Art College she and her family moved to California, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree with Honours from the Otis Art Institute in 1990, and now lives in Los Angeles with her husband Ben and what she calls a magically inclined calico cat named Bamboo!
She started her working life as an animation artist and worked on projects for various animation studios including Disney and Nickelodeon, but now paints full-time, primarily in oils and has an affinity for painting ‘en plein air’ and also enjoys creating studio works using her outdoor sketches as inspiration. “Painting is somewhat of a spiritual experience for me. Although challenging at times, the end result evokes within me a sense of elation, nostalgia and harmony”.
Her artistic inspirations include John Singer Sargent, Anders Zorn, Nicolai Fechin and Cecilia Beaux.
Jennifer has won too many awards to list, and most recently received the 'Donor's Award of Excellence' from the Oil Painters of America and is a Signature Member of the prestigeous Oil Painters of America (OPA).
Jennifer is the second international artist in our stable, and we are particularly proud to be one of only two galleries that exhibit her work, the other one being in Colorado!
It only takes a second to realise that one is looking at work by an exceptionally talented painter, one who paints light (which is what we all paint) like very, very few can, and we are beside ourselves with excitement to exhibit paintings by such an artist. Her brushwork is utterly and deliciously spellbinding! She has that rare ability to enthral artists and collectors alike and we feel certain that Jennifer McChristian's timeless work will be greeted with immediate acclaim here in sleepy Rutland. Colorado/Rutland...take your pick!
