Karl was born in 1967 in Ashford, Kent and now lives in Wittersham, near Rye. A roofer by trade, Karl is an avid painter and gets out to paint directly from nature whenever he can and has drawn and painted all of his life, but has no formal training. He has, however, had the benefit of working alongside some of the finest British and American living landscape painters and was elected a member of the prestigious Wapping Group of Painters in 2011. Despite painting not being his day-job, he lacks none of the skills of the full-time professional, as is immediately evident by the confidently placed brushstrokes and perfect judgement of tone and colour of any Karl Terry painting.
Karl has painted extensively at home and abroad and his work is in many private collections, including those of Jeff and Sandra Beck, Prof Ken Howard OBE, Sir Donald Sinden, Sir Paul McCartney, Major General Keith Spacie, Heather Mills and Haralampi Oroschokoff. In May 2011 Karl was featured on the BBC2 art show, ‘Show me the Monet’.
We are therefore delighted to have Karl’s work on our gallery’s walls up here in the East Midlands.
