Haidee-Jo Summers, born in 1971, graduated from Leicester university with an honours degree in illustration, but she knew her future lay in fine art, and thus was forged a career in painting.
Haidee is very industrious, having a passion for painting, and has built up an enviable reputation as both a demonstrator and a teacher of workshops, but she also somehow manages to enter an amazing amount of open exhibitions and competitions, and has won a whole array of awards for her work, including twice winner of the Winsor & Newton Young Artist Award at the ROI, SAA Artist of the Year in 2012, winner of the Best Portrait at the 2012 ROI Paint Evening, and most recently three awards for her Red Sail painting at the 2014 Artist and Leisure Painter’s exhibition at Patchings Art Centre, including The Artist Purchase Prize Award selected by Ken Howard RA, and there was a frenzy of people who wanted to buy this painting. With a continued acceptance of work for the RSMA and the ROI, it is surely only a matter of time before she becomes a member of one or both of those prestigious societies.
*Stop press - Haidee has now been made a full member of the ROI, as of December 2016!*
Haidee paints mostly en plein air, in a very fresh style, placing bold brushstrokes of colour to produce vibrant work, instantly recognisable. She has a huge following on social media, writes a monthly column for The Artist magazine and has a massive legion of fans of her work, and so we are delighted to have her work exhibited in the Gallery.
