Robin was born and lives in Tamworth in Staffordshire, but a lot of his paintings convey his love affair with the West Country.
Robin started out as a pastellist, but has now largely moved on to oils. He is equally adept with both mediums, but applies oil paint in a very different way to pastels. He blocks in the main shapes with a brush, then uses a palette knife for much of the rest of the painting, applying thick, juicy impasto strokes for the highlights. This produces a very distinctive, rich and painterly quality to his paintings.
His pastels are also a joy to behold, but of course, the pigment is applied with strokes of the dry pastel sticks.
Robin has won numerous awards within the Lichfield Society of Artists and in 2003 was the winner of the Windsor & Newton Award in an Open Pastel Exhibition. He is a modest artist, but is destined for much greater accolades and we are proud to have his work on our Gallery walls.
