Roy Connelly was born in 1966 and now lives in Suffolk with his wife, novelist Victoria Connelly. He has painted all his life, but became a full-time painter in 2004 after more than twenty years travelling the world as a television cameraman.
He has exhibited widely including at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the New English Art Club and Royal Society of British Artists. In 2008 he was honoured to be an invited artist at the Discerning Eye exhibition in London.
His preferred method of working involves painting from life by the direct observation of his subject and is therefore another devotee of plein air painting, like so many in our stable of artists. His paintings are usually completed in a single session, which helps him to capture the time the picture was created as well as the place. His style is, of necessity, quite loose, distilling the essence of a place with minimum fuss, so his paintings are undoubtedly very painterly.
Roy often takes part in shared exhibitions at galleries in London, France, Cornwall and the Isle of Wight, and we are delighted to have his work up here in the East Midlands.
